Frequently Asked Questions

Sizing & Fit

The best way to find the right size is to go by your baby’s weight rather than their age, as every baby grows differently. Each pack clearly displays the recommended weight range on the front, making it easy to find the right fit. As a general rule, if the tabs are stretching to their limit or you’re noticing red marks around your baby’s legs or waist, it’s likely time to move up a size.

Most newborns start in a Size 1 (Newborn), which is designed for babies up to 5kg. Each size displays the recommended weight range on the pack to help you choose with confidence.

Yes - our sizes are designed with a small overlap of around 1kg so you can transition your baby gradually rather than switching abruptly. Here’s a guide to our full size range:

  • Newborn - up to 5kg
  • Infant - 4-7kg
  • Crawler - 6-11kg
  • Toddler - 10-15kg
  • Walker - 13-18kg
  • Junior - 16kg+

If your baby falls within an overlap, consider their build and whether the current size still fits comfortably around the legs and waist without any red marks.

Your baby’s weight is the most reliable guide - check the weight range printed on the front of each pack. Signs that it’s time to size up include the tabs straining to fasten comfortably, red marks around the legs or waist, or frequent leaks despite a good fit. When in doubt, sizing up is usually the right call.

Using Nappies

As a general guide, newborns typically need changing every two to three hours, while older babies can usually go a little longer. Always change your baby as soon as possible after a bowel movement, regardless of how recently you last changed them. Our wetness indicator takes the guesswork out of wet nappies - it changes colour when it’s time for a change.

The wetness indicator is a small strip on the outside of the nappy that changes colour when the nappy is wet. It’s particularly handy for newborns when it can be harder to tell at a glance whether a change is needed.

Leaks are usually caused by an incorrect fit rather than the nappy itself. Check that the tabs are fastened symmetrically and snugly around the waist, and that the leg cuffs are fully pulled out and sitting flush against your baby’s skin. If everything looks right but leaks continue, it may be time to move up a size. Treasures nappies feature engineered leak protection around the legs and Grip Lock tabs to help maintain a secure, stay-in-place fit.

Nappy rash is most commonly caused by prolonged contact with moisture. Changing your baby regularly and using a nappy that draws moisture away from the skin quickly can make a big difference. Treasures nappies are independently tested for superior absorbency and are free from latex, fragrance, lotions and toxic treating agents, making them a gentle choice for delicate skin. If irritation persists, we recommend speaking with your GP or Plunket nurse.

General nappy rash is very common and usually appears as redness or irritation in the nappy area, most often caused by prolonged contact with moisture or a dirty nappy. It typically clears up within a few days with regular changes, good airflow, and a barrier cream.

An allergic reaction may look similar but tends to appear more suddenly, can spread beyond the nappy area, and may include raised welts, blistering, or swelling. It’s often linked to a specific product - such as a new brand of nappy, wipe, or cream.

Treasures nappies are free from latex, fragrance, lotions and toxic treating agents, making them a gentle option for sensitive skin. If you suspect your baby is having an allergic reaction, or if a rash is severe, spreading, or not improving after a couple of days, we recommend contacting your GP or Plunket nurse.
